The World Of Work
Ahhh, this is the life. First off, I got paid for the hour and a half of training last week, most of which wasn't even training, but I was there so I get paid! Rockity on. And then today was just great. They didn't know where to put me cuz there was no free workstation in the building I was in so we went to the other building [I shant reveal names or anything just in case it would be breaking my contract or something...wouldn't want to do that! :O ) and they put me in this huge and really nice office that used to be one of the engineers' office until he left. It has 2 whiteboards, a cushy chair, fathoms of pens, pencils, notepads, highlighteres, post-it notes, white-out, tape, paperclips and other such office essentials and a computer (with DVD-rom drive!), speakers (gotta have my music, except the speakers weren't by any means hooked up so I had to do that myself) and humungous monitor which now displays quite proudly my Stonehenge background of joy. Of course, I may not be able to stay in the office for the whole summer...I may not even be able to stay there the rest of this week but it was a nice starting day and my desktop will forever be Stonehenge no matter which computer I log into...unless I change it of course. So, after that happened we tried to figure out what I was supposed to do but couldn't so we called in this other dude who then also tried to help, but that failed too so we called in this other dude and he tried to help as well. So there was me and 3 dudes all in 'my' big, cushy office. They tried to figure out how to name stuff for about an hour (it was painful, there was arguing and swearing and all that, but I was highly amused), then finally figured it out as break time began. So then we headed on back to the other building to check out some valves and stuff so I had a bit of a clue what I was supposed to be working on and that was fun. I know all about flanges now. ANYWHO, then we went back to the main 'break-room' in that building and I do believe I was the only female there...in the entire building. And the other two summer students are guys. One I talked to, the other had no such luck. But then I was getting slightly uncomfortable in this room of men in coveralls and hard hats (except for 3) and left to dad's building (where 'my' office) is and went back to work for about 2 minutes before I tried to hook up the speakers (it all went well until I tried to actually plug the speakers into the outlet thinger and accidentally turned the entire computer station off). SO, I turned the computer off and couldn't get back on cuz I didn't have a log-in profile yet. So then I complained to dad who called the dude who I'm working for and he came in about half an hour later (after I had read all the manuals of boringness in the office and organised all the pens in the toilet paper roll that was sitting on the desk). Then I got my profile and started on my work for an hour and 15 minutes till lunchtime at which time I traversed on up to the lunch room of the building and had a good time informing everyone that I would soon be in England. Oh, and they have free orange, apple, grape and grapefruit juice in the fridge (among other things that you can buy). Yay! Then I went back downstairs to work for another half an hour and then it was orientation! So, we got a huge notepad of sticky notes with a cool waterfall (well, MINE had a cool waterfall on it, no one elses did...of course, there WERE only 2 others) on it and a keychain, pin, mug and pen. All very technologically advanced of course. ;) At this time we were again asked to spiel about our plans so I informed them people that I was going to England for Bible School. Badump-ch. Then we were done and I had to go watch dad work for half an hour before we could leave. Good times. Tomorrow I shall look foreward to getting my card, more orientation, music and *hopefully* emails at work from my lovely buddies who have been informed? :) K, bye guys. Love y'alls. Have a fantabulous day! :: Muah! ::
