Three Lions by Baddiel, Skinner And The Lightning Seeds
It's coming home
It's coming home
It's coming
Football's coming home
(x4)
Everyone seems to know the score
They've seen it all before
They just know
They're so sure
That England's gonna
Throw it away
Gonna blow it away
But I know they can play
Cos' I remember
Three lions on the shirt
Jules Rimet still gleaming
30 Years of hurt
Never stoppped me dreaming
So many jokes, so many jeers
But all those oh so nears
Wear you down
Through the years
But I still see that
Tackle by Moore
And when Lineker scored
Bobby belting the ball
And nobby dancing
Three lions on a shirt
Jules rimet still gleaming
30 Years of hurt
Never stopped me dreaming
I know that was then
But it could be again
It's coming home
It's coming home
It's coming
Football's coming home
(x4)
Three lions on a shirt
Jules rimet still gleaming
30 Years of hurt
Never stopped me dreaming
Now, many of you are probably wondering what the heck this is about. It's what I came up with when I attempted to find out what 'Jules Rimet still gleaming...' meant. Is that a person? Cuz it's a book about the history of football in Britain or something and it's also in this song written, I believe, during EURO '96. So, now I'm going to research some more. Ok, Jules Rimet was a French dude who started FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association <--I know what it means now! Now I must reminisce about the beautiful soccer game I went to see) and the World Cup and it is [or was, at any rate, until it was stolen in 1983 and a new cup was made, now simply called the FIFA World Cup] the name given to the 'cup' awarded to the winning team. I assume that's why it can gleam. This is all very interesting indeed. And I have pictures! Rock on. Ok, this is really sad you know. I've just spent like 25 minutes on this. Oh well, I DID find it quite interesting so.
This is Jules Rimet. He's French.
And this is the Jules Rimet Cup. Ain't it special?
This is the FIFA World Cup. Isn't it SHINY?
